Historical marker for Indiana legal pioneer dedicated
NCS Attorney, Brad Wombles, and former Chief Justice of Indiana, Randall Shepard, dedicate a historical marker commemorating the life and work of Indiana Supreme Court Justice, Isaac Blackford.
Isaac Blackford served as a judge on the Indiana Supreme Court during the entirety of Indiana's first Constitution, deciding many cases that are foundational to the state's jurisprudence. He is mostly known for his influential Blackford's Reports, which served as the state's first compilation of appellate opinions.
Brad had the opportunity to carry out his passion for history and the law in a collaboration with former Chief Justice Shepard through research and making application to the Indiana Historical Bureau for this monument. The marker can be visited on the corner of Blackford Street and New York Street along the Cultural Trail and immediately west of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
